Virginia chats with Adam from Instagram’s “Dis or That'' about his upcoming trip to Disneyland with his family. This trip was initiated by his 5 year old daughter who is an experienced Disney World goer, but wanted to see what Disneyland was all about. Previous trips have included their larger extended family, so this will be the first trip to any Disney property with only their immediate family of four! They are looking forward to experiencing the roaming characters, visiting Cars Land, and comparing the Disneyland to Walt Disney World.

00:00:12.037 --> 00:00:15.377
VIRGINIA: Welcome to Where I Long To Be, a Magical Trip Report Podcast.
00:00:15.637 --> 00:00:17.677
VIRGINIA: My name is Virginia, and I'm your host.
00:00:18.157 --> 00:00:23.357
VIRGINIA: Today, you'll hear my pre-trip interview with Adam from Instagram's Dis or That page.
00:00:23.957 --> 00:00:31.517
VIRGINIA: Adam puts out polls and has audience participation in bracket competitions to decide whether people prefer Dis or That.
00:00:32.077 --> 00:00:41.017
VIRGINIA: It's a lot of fun, and this week, in honor of the podcast, he's planning on doing some Disneyland versus Disney World comparisons, so make sure you check that out.
00:00:42.177 --> 00:00:43.357
VIRGINIA: Let's get right into it.
00:00:43.737 --> 00:00:44.797
VIRGINIA: Here's Adam.
00:00:46.357 --> 00:00:48.477
VIRGINIA: Listeners, I have a special guest with me today.
00:00:48.497 --> 00:00:54.577
VIRGINIA: It is Adam from Dis or That, and that's underscore Dis or That on Instagram.
00:00:54.997 --> 00:00:57.977
VIRGINIA: Thank you so much for being here with me today, Adam.
00:00:58.537 --> 00:00:59.157
ADAM: Thanks, Virginia.
00:00:59.177 --> 00:01:04.797
ADAM: I appreciate you having me and looking forward to diving into the trip upcoming and seeing where it takes us.
00:01:05.377 --> 00:01:05.797
VIRGINIA: Yeah.
00:01:05.877 --> 00:01:09.937
VIRGINIA: Before we do that, why don't you explain your page to listeners?
00:01:10.737 --> 00:01:12.717
VIRGINIA: What is it and how did you start doing it?
00:01:13.077 --> 00:01:13.437
ADAM: Yeah.
00:01:13.457 --> 00:01:16.697
ADAM: It's really just a fun little site that we started on Instagram.
00:01:17.577 --> 00:01:19.757
ADAM: I'm really into stats and what people like to do.
00:01:20.777 --> 00:01:28.717
ADAM: Just had some free time over the holidays and really interested to see what people like, this or that.
00:01:29.677 --> 00:01:33.957
ADAM: We started on Sunday nights where followers can submit questions.
00:01:34.417 --> 00:01:35.277
ADAM: What would you rather do?
00:01:35.277 --> 00:01:41.177
ADAM: Wait three hours to see your favorite ride or an hour to go see your favorite character.
00:01:41.637 --> 00:01:43.977
ADAM: Fun things like that, that we have people vote on.
00:01:44.277 --> 00:01:50.017
ADAM: Then on Thursdays, we do a theme park, sometimes tournaments or leagues.
00:01:50.037 --> 00:01:55.337
ADAM: We're going to start our March Madness bracket here coming up this week with the worst ride at Disney World.
00:01:55.677 --> 00:01:57.117
ADAM: Usually, we do best ride, but-
00:01:57.957 --> 00:01:59.357
VIRGINIA: Okay.
00:01:59.777 --> 00:02:02.937
ADAM: That would be a fun take on to see what people think the worst ride is.
00:02:03.157 --> 00:02:05.817
ADAM: I think we can pinpoint what people think the best ones are.
00:02:08.197 --> 00:02:10.597
ADAM: We do polls about three times a week.
00:02:10.717 --> 00:02:13.437
ADAM: It's just a fun way to interact with people that enjoy Disney.
00:02:13.777 --> 00:02:14.577
VIRGINIA: You said December.
00:02:14.597 --> 00:02:15.577
VIRGINIA: Is that when you started it?
00:02:16.137 --> 00:02:17.737
ADAM: I think it was November.
00:02:17.757 --> 00:02:21.657
ADAM: We did our first tester, this or that on a Sunday night.
00:02:22.317 --> 00:02:31.177
ADAM: Then over the holidays, we started a best podcast of the year just to try to get some more participation.
00:02:31.497 --> 00:02:38.117
ADAM: We had some awesome nominations for podcasts of the year and really gained some traction there.
00:02:38.137 --> 00:02:40.157
ADAM: Probably gained about 1,500 followers there.
00:02:40.177 --> 00:02:45.377
ADAM: It made the Sundays and Thursday polls a little bit more fun to get hundreds of answers instead of 20.
00:02:47.057 --> 00:02:52.197
ADAM: We've only been doing it for three months and it's been fun so far, so we'll keep it going as well.
00:02:52.597 --> 00:02:59.057
VIRGINIA: It's different to be on participating in the Disney community in a public way like that.
00:02:59.357 --> 00:03:08.197
ADAM: Yeah, it's just a little fun thing and I see people, I listen to podcasts a little bit just to get some advice on Disney trips, like what we're doing today.
00:03:09.337 --> 00:03:20.117
ADAM: Just thought it'd be fun to take my own spin on it to see what people enjoyed and what questions they could come up with because we ask for submissions of, what's your favorite, would you rather this or that?
00:03:21.397 --> 00:03:24.597
ADAM: We use those submissions mostly for our Sunday nights.
00:03:25.737 --> 00:03:28.577
ADAM: It's about six questions every week to see what people like.
00:03:29.497 --> 00:03:31.717
ADAM: We also try and do a picture of the day.
00:03:32.337 --> 00:03:36.697
ADAM: Sometimes you fall a little bit behind on that, but people can also send us pictures that they want featured.
00:03:36.937 --> 00:03:43.377
ADAM: It's just a fun way to share what people are seeing in the world of Disney and just to get more followers that way as well.
00:03:43.797 --> 00:03:49.237
VIRGINIA: I have to say, my son and I frequently, we play what we call Disney, would you rather?
00:03:49.857 --> 00:03:53.017
VIRGINIA: It's one of our favorite ways to pass time.
00:03:53.037 --> 00:04:00.457
VIRGINIA: If we're waiting for something or sometimes if he wants to sort of delay when he goes to bed, he'll be like, Hey, let's talk Disney.
00:04:00.957 --> 00:04:01.697
VIRGINIA: Would you rather?
00:04:01.697 --> 00:04:04.477
VIRGINIA: And I'm just like, I know you're tricking me, but I want to play.
00:04:04.737 --> 00:04:08.517
ADAM: Well, he'd fit right into the community.
00:04:08.537 --> 00:04:10.317
ADAM: He can submit some questions for us.
00:04:12.237 --> 00:04:14.257
VIRGINIA: I'll definitely have to point him your way.
00:04:14.277 --> 00:04:17.837
VIRGINIA: And I hope that listeners will go ahead over to your page.
00:04:17.857 --> 00:04:20.697
VIRGINIA: It will be linked in the show notes and give a follow.
00:04:21.097 --> 00:04:26.077
VIRGINIA: But let's get into why you're here today because you have an upcoming trip.
00:04:26.097 --> 00:04:31.377
VIRGINIA: So where are you going and how did you decide to travel at this time of year?
00:04:31.837 --> 00:04:38.277
ADAM: Yeah, so we're actually taking our two, almost three year old and five year old to Disneyland this time.
00:04:38.277 --> 00:04:42.077
ADAM: We've been to Disney World with them two times before this.
00:04:42.337 --> 00:04:48.537
ADAM: And one was a week vacation with two sets of grandparents and one was a four day with another set of grandparents.
00:04:48.557 --> 00:04:54.397
ADAM: So we actually were talking to our five year old and she asked us to go to Disneyland the next time.
00:04:54.957 --> 00:04:58.277
ADAM: So I haven't been there since I was five.
00:04:58.437 --> 00:05:02.797
ADAM: So over 30 years ago, it's a new experience for us.
00:05:03.237 --> 00:05:05.837
ADAM: And my wife, she's in the education program.
00:05:05.857 --> 00:05:10.317
ADAM: So we have to go over spring break when when teachers are available.
00:05:10.337 --> 00:05:12.417
ADAM: So that's kind of how we ended up there.
00:05:12.457 --> 00:05:15.197
ADAM: And we're kind of newbies to Disneyland.
00:05:15.217 --> 00:05:16.037
ADAM: So this would be interesting.
00:05:16.897 --> 00:05:18.017
VIRGINIA: OK, all right.
00:05:18.297 --> 00:05:20.657
VIRGINIA: Yes, a lot has changed in 30 years.
00:05:23.337 --> 00:05:35.157
VIRGINIA: Yeah, yeah, it will be interesting to see what has changed and what maybe maybe has not changed, but that your memory of it because it was so long ago is not real.
00:05:35.177 --> 00:05:37.637
VIRGINIA: Like your memory has warped over all that time.
00:05:38.177 --> 00:05:39.597
VIRGINIA: So that will be cool.
00:05:39.897 --> 00:05:40.277
VIRGINIA: All right.
00:05:40.297 --> 00:05:42.977
VIRGINIA: So who all is going on this trip?
00:05:43.137 --> 00:05:43.857
VIRGINIA: Just the four of you?
00:05:44.497 --> 00:05:46.937
ADAM: Yep, just the four of us, which will be kind of nice.
00:05:47.417 --> 00:05:58.817
ADAM: Not that we don't like traveling with our family, but the two times we've been to Disney World, you know, it's been multi-generational and which is great, but it will be nice to see what the four of us can do.
00:05:59.617 --> 00:06:03.917
ADAM: The reason we picked, you know, this year is the two year old still gets in for free.
00:06:03.937 --> 00:06:06.177
ADAM: So it saves a little bit of money that way.
00:06:06.197 --> 00:06:09.457
ADAM: And our daughter just just loves everything about Disney.
00:06:09.477 --> 00:06:10.437
ADAM: So we're excited about it.
00:06:10.457 --> 00:06:11.177
ADAM: So just us four.
00:06:12.477 --> 00:06:12.897
ADAM: And yeah.
00:06:14.137 --> 00:06:14.537
VIRGINIA: All right.
00:06:14.697 --> 00:06:17.737
VIRGINIA: And where are you coming from in the world?
00:06:18.257 --> 00:06:20.997
VIRGINIA: How long will it take you to get to Anaheim?
00:06:21.717 --> 00:06:28.097
ADAM: So we live in Nebraska, fly straight from Omaha to Las Vegas and then LAX.
00:06:28.117 --> 00:06:31.677
ADAM: So it actually takes about five hours in the plane.
00:06:32.937 --> 00:06:36.297
ADAM: The flights to Orange County are about $200 more per person, unfortunately.
00:06:36.497 --> 00:06:41.977
ADAM: So we were flying into LAX and renting a car and driving down to Anaheim from there.
00:06:41.997 --> 00:06:43.737
ADAM: So about six hour total trip.
00:06:44.857 --> 00:06:46.557
ADAM: We'll be there by noon on Saturday.
00:06:48.057 --> 00:06:49.117
VIRGINIA: Noon on Saturday.
00:06:49.157 --> 00:06:51.197
VIRGINIA: And where are you going to be staying?
00:06:52.037 --> 00:06:57.357
ADAM: We're staying at the Spring Hill Suites, about a mile off property between the gates.
00:06:57.957 --> 00:06:59.957
ADAM: So it's about a mile and a quarter of a walk.
00:07:00.477 --> 00:07:03.737
ADAM: We rented a double stroller for the kids so that they don't get tired before we get there.
00:07:05.757 --> 00:07:12.837
ADAM: I'm a Marriott guy for my job, so it's also a nice benefit to have those good neighbor hotels right off site there for us.
00:07:14.457 --> 00:07:17.477
VIRGINIA: And so it's approximately a mile away.
00:07:17.477 --> 00:07:18.277
VIRGINIA: You got a stroller.
00:07:18.297 --> 00:07:23.677
VIRGINIA: Does that mean you will be walking the mile every morning, or will they have some sort of shuttle service?
00:07:24.137 --> 00:07:25.237
ADAM: We'll be walking.
00:07:25.257 --> 00:07:31.257
ADAM: I haven't looked to see if they have a shuttle service just because we're coming from central time zones, so we'll be up early.
00:07:32.497 --> 00:07:36.777
ADAM: And I'm one of those guys that has to get there right at the beginning of the day.
00:07:36.797 --> 00:07:40.257
ADAM: And I hate to be waiting on the shuttle if it's not there at the minute that I planned.
00:07:40.277 --> 00:07:41.677
ADAM: I get anxious.
00:07:41.937 --> 00:07:47.997
ADAM: And so it just will be a better for us if we just walk and we walk all the time anyway.
00:07:48.017 --> 00:07:49.737
ADAM: So miles not too bad for us.
00:07:50.237 --> 00:07:50.557
VIRGINIA: Yeah.
00:07:50.757 --> 00:07:51.137
VIRGINIA: Okay.
00:07:51.857 --> 00:07:56.657
VIRGINIA: Now you said that you're somebody who is anxious and likes to get there early.
00:07:56.857 --> 00:08:01.677
VIRGINIA: So it seems to me that you are maybe the biggest Disney fan in the family.
00:08:01.697 --> 00:08:02.337
VIRGINIA: Is this true?
00:08:02.357 --> 00:08:04.817
ADAM: I would say the biggest planner.
00:08:05.237 --> 00:08:09.157
ADAM: I plan all the vacations and all the itinerary and all that.
00:08:09.177 --> 00:08:14.377
ADAM: So I feel like if things go wrong, it's on my shoulders and can't plan the tour of the five year olds.
00:08:14.517 --> 00:08:15.357
VIRGINIA: Well, no.
00:08:18.957 --> 00:08:24.777
ADAM: I just like to be on schedule just to start the day because I'm assuming Disneyland is like Disney World.
00:08:24.837 --> 00:08:27.937
ADAM: If you don't get there early in the day, you kind of waste some time.
00:08:27.957 --> 00:08:32.717
ADAM: So after that, we'll relax and take it easy after the first two or three rides and go from there.
00:08:33.097 --> 00:08:35.797
VIRGINIA: Now, how often do you get down to Orlando?
00:08:36.117 --> 00:08:37.277
ADAM: Probably once a year.
00:08:37.477 --> 00:08:41.017
ADAM: So we did Disney World two years apart.
00:08:41.897 --> 00:08:46.477
ADAM: And then we'll see what we do after this just to see, you know, take vacations other places.
00:08:46.497 --> 00:08:48.657
ADAM: But we probably get to Florida once a year and we'll see.
00:08:49.437 --> 00:08:53.337
ADAM: Our daughter keeps asking to go to Disney, so probably won't let up on that.
00:08:53.357 --> 00:08:56.597
ADAM: So probably still be once a year, once every other year type of deal for us.
00:08:57.237 --> 00:08:58.197
VIRGINIA: OK, all right.
00:08:58.797 --> 00:09:02.957
VIRGINIA: What sort of tickets did you decide on for this trip?
00:09:03.297 --> 00:09:07.457
VIRGINIA: Because you're there from the 23rd and you fly home on the 27th.
00:09:07.897 --> 00:09:08.477
ADAM: That's correct.
00:09:08.497 --> 00:09:13.737
ADAM: So we we did three day park hopper with Jeannie Plus.
00:09:14.397 --> 00:09:15.797
ADAM: So we got that booked already.
00:09:16.057 --> 00:09:18.137
ADAM: We still have to pick park reservations out there.
00:09:18.157 --> 00:09:25.517
ADAM: So we did our first and third day at Disneyland to start and then the second day in the middle of our California adventure.
00:09:26.097 --> 00:09:32.977
ADAM: So we're going to get two days early entry at Disneyland and then one at DCA.
00:09:33.837 --> 00:09:35.737
VIRGINIA: OK, how did you decide on that?
00:09:35.757 --> 00:09:43.477
VIRGINIA: Is it because your kids are so young and you feel like they will have so much more to do in the Disneyland side of the parks?
00:09:44.077 --> 00:09:45.857
ADAM: That was the thinking behind it.
00:09:46.457 --> 00:09:49.797
ADAM: Since we started planning, our son has fell in love with cars.
00:09:50.977 --> 00:09:53.017
ADAM: So we'll see if that's a good choice or not.
00:09:53.037 --> 00:10:00.117
ADAM: But it seems like with the kids in the height limits that Disneyland has more options and more to do.
00:10:01.857 --> 00:10:06.237
ADAM: And then DCA has a little bit more height requirements from what I see.
00:10:06.437 --> 00:10:13.477
ADAM: But it's just, I think we want to see Disneyland first because that's where it all started for Disney.
00:10:13.497 --> 00:10:15.517
ADAM: So that's a good place to go first for them.
00:10:16.317 --> 00:10:16.797
VIRGINIA: Okay.
00:10:17.137 --> 00:10:24.057
VIRGINIA: How tall is the two year old, like will they be tall enough to get on the car's ride?
00:10:24.937 --> 00:10:29.737
ADAM: So he's like 39 and a half inches and I think it's 40.
00:10:29.757 --> 00:10:39.457
ADAM: So I might have to get some inserts for him or something, but we'll report back on that to see if he has a growth spurt before Saturday or I guess it would be Monday.
00:10:39.477 --> 00:10:41.697
ADAM: But I think he might make it, but we'll see.
00:10:42.537 --> 00:10:42.857
VIRGINIA: Yeah.
00:10:42.997 --> 00:10:46.277
VIRGINIA: Remeasure him right before they grow so fast at that age.
00:10:46.297 --> 00:10:48.417
VIRGINIA: It's like you never know.
00:10:48.637 --> 00:10:48.917
ADAM: Right.
00:10:49.217 --> 00:10:50.297
ADAM: We're crossing our fingers for him.
00:10:50.637 --> 00:11:02.617
VIRGINIA: Yes, I will definitely cross my fingers for him because I mean, I feel like if he's a huge Cars fan, then you need to try to avoid that area because if he sees it, he's going to want to go on it.
00:11:02.657 --> 00:11:07.297
VIRGINIA: But I mean, there is a lot of stuff to see within the rest of Cars Land.
00:11:07.337 --> 00:11:14.097
VIRGINIA: Like he would probably be able to go on the Luigi's whatever it's called or no, Mater's junkyard jam.
00:11:14.657 --> 00:11:14.997
VIRGINIA: Yeah.
00:11:15.137 --> 00:11:15.537
VIRGINIA: Yeah.
00:11:15.597 --> 00:11:18.897
VIRGINIA: It's essentially Alien Swirling Saucers, but Mater.
00:11:19.777 --> 00:11:20.597
ADAM: Which he went on.
00:11:20.617 --> 00:11:23.077
ADAM: He went on that last year, so he'd be able to ride that for sure.
00:11:23.097 --> 00:11:25.097
ADAM: Well, he went on Alien Swirling Saucers last year.
00:11:25.797 --> 00:11:26.177
VIRGINIA: Yeah.
00:11:26.437 --> 00:11:26.737
VIRGINIA: Yeah.
00:11:26.837 --> 00:11:27.537
VIRGINIA: Should be the same.
00:11:28.037 --> 00:11:28.377
VIRGINIA: Okay.
00:11:28.397 --> 00:11:31.497
VIRGINIA: Let's talk through your day to day plans.
00:11:31.577 --> 00:11:34.357
VIRGINIA: So Saturday, the 23rd, you'll arrive by noon.
00:11:34.377 --> 00:11:42.717
VIRGINIA: You said you're renting a car, so that'll take a little bit of time to go pick up a rental car and then to get over to your resort.
00:11:43.117 --> 00:11:46.117
VIRGINIA: Do you have any other plans that afternoon?
00:11:46.137 --> 00:11:47.777
VIRGINIA: Like, what are you going to do with the rest of your day?
00:11:48.777 --> 00:11:59.657
ADAM: Yeah, so we're planning on going to downtown Disney, that area right when we get down there to do some shopping because we won't have a lot of time to do that on our park days.
00:11:59.677 --> 00:12:08.997
ADAM: So we're going to do that, find somewhere to eat dinner and then probably get to bed pretty early because the kids will be, they usually got about a 9 p.m.
00:12:09.017 --> 00:12:11.957
ADAM: bedtime here, so it'll be seven out there and just get rested for the next day.
00:12:11.977 --> 00:12:13.657
ADAM: So not a lot.
00:12:14.577 --> 00:12:24.737
ADAM: We might go buy groceries because we're planning on taking some meals in the park for the kids just because, you know, they're peanut butter and jelly and goldfish type of eating kids.
00:12:24.757 --> 00:12:28.057
ADAM: So eating in the park might not be worth it for them.
00:12:28.077 --> 00:12:33.237
ADAM: So that's a soft itinerary of that day and maybe get in the pool for a little bit as well.
00:12:33.897 --> 00:12:34.337
VIRGINIA: Okay.
00:12:35.057 --> 00:12:37.277
VIRGINIA: Does your hotel have a good pool?
00:12:37.297 --> 00:12:38.657
VIRGINIA: Have you checked it out yet online?
00:12:39.677 --> 00:12:46.337
ADAM: It seems to be kind of the standard Spring Hill Suites kind of pool, but it's good enough for what we need to do.
00:12:46.977 --> 00:12:47.257
VIRGINIA: Yeah.
00:12:48.397 --> 00:12:51.417
VIRGINIA: Do you know what kind of weather you're expecting?
00:12:51.437 --> 00:12:52.777
VIRGINIA: Have you been monitoring that?
00:12:53.697 --> 00:12:54.057
ADAM: Yeah.
00:12:54.077 --> 00:12:58.217
ADAM: So the high is about 65 each day and the low is about 52.
00:12:58.517 --> 00:13:01.617
ADAM: So not as warm as we'd hope, but it is what it is.
00:13:01.617 --> 00:13:04.097
ADAM: It's probably good walking weather, I would imagine.
00:13:04.757 --> 00:13:13.197
VIRGINIA: Yeah, and it's funny when I was young and I thought of California because I'd never been to California before because it's usually so sun shiny.
00:13:13.757 --> 00:13:17.297
VIRGINIA: I just thought of California as a hot state and I was just like, oh, it's hot there.
00:13:17.317 --> 00:13:22.637
VIRGINIA: And now I'm like, no, it's very mild there most of the time.
00:13:22.757 --> 00:13:28.377
VIRGINIA: It seems to me like even during the height of summer, it's not super hot.
00:13:28.517 --> 00:13:30.497
VIRGINIA: It's not anything like it is in Florida.
00:13:31.117 --> 00:13:32.677
ADAM: No, not by far.
00:13:32.697 --> 00:13:33.817
ADAM: There's no humidity down there.
00:13:33.817 --> 00:13:37.197
ADAM: So yeah, it's a lot different ballgame in the weather sense there.
00:13:37.797 --> 00:13:53.077
VIRGINIA: Yeah, it's a good spot to go for people who are especially heat sensitive, who are looking for some Disney magic, but maybe don't necessarily want to go to Disney World, you know, anytime between like, say, late May through early October.
00:13:53.097 --> 00:13:53.417
ADAM: Right.
00:13:54.057 --> 00:13:54.637
VIRGINIA: Maybe later.
00:13:55.357 --> 00:13:55.697
VIRGINIA: Yeah.
00:13:56.597 --> 00:13:56.937
VIRGINIA: Okay.
00:13:57.197 --> 00:13:57.637
VIRGINIA: All right.
00:13:57.657 --> 00:14:06.757
VIRGINIA: So Sunday, March the 24th, you are heading into Disneyland and you said you will plan on doing early entry.
00:14:07.197 --> 00:14:14.137
VIRGINIA: So what do you think your first thing that you want to do with the family is that first day?
00:14:14.157 --> 00:14:19.717
ADAM: Well, I think it'd probably be going back to Fantasyland for the kids to see what they'd like to hop on.
00:14:19.957 --> 00:14:26.097
ADAM: That's probably what we'll do on the plane is ask our daughter what her favorite ride she think would be.
00:14:27.037 --> 00:14:28.537
ADAM: We did get Genie Plus.
00:14:29.157 --> 00:14:33.777
ADAM: I did buy The Unofficial Guide by Seth Kaburkski and the Len Testa group.
00:14:34.237 --> 00:14:44.437
ADAM: And so probably follow one of their tour guides for the morning to see how well that works out for day one since we have two opportunities to attack Disneyland in the morning, if you will.
00:14:46.157 --> 00:14:50.697
ADAM: Her favorite ride out in Disney World was The Barnstormer.
00:14:51.497 --> 00:15:02.957
ADAM: So a lot of those fantasy rides out there, she likes the roller coasters a little bit, but she's got to see them if she wants to get on them before she can go.
00:15:02.977 --> 00:15:03.157
VIRGINIA: Yeah.
00:15:03.737 --> 00:15:08.877
VIRGINIA: I imagine that you've had the opportunity to utilize Rider Swap before.
00:15:08.897 --> 00:15:09.117
ADAM: Yes.
00:15:10.317 --> 00:15:19.357
VIRGINIA: Yeah, my first experience with Rider Swap was on our February trip because we never had to do that because the first time I took my son, he was five and he was very tall.
00:15:19.937 --> 00:15:20.897
VIRGINIA: He's always been very tall.
00:15:21.497 --> 00:15:27.277
VIRGINIA: And so he was able to ride everything we were able to ride basically, except for like one thing that first trip.
00:15:28.657 --> 00:15:37.697
VIRGINIA: And I think I was, I don't know what I thought Rider Swap was going to be like, but it does take a little bit of time to utilize that service.
00:15:39.857 --> 00:15:49.837
VIRGINIA: And so are you the type of couple that will also have a bunch of rides that you for sure want to do while you're there that are, you know, rides that they are too short for?
00:15:50.777 --> 00:15:55.557
VIRGINIA: And if so, like, will you be trying to do that Rider Swap as much as possible?
00:15:55.697 --> 00:16:01.617
VIRGINIA: Or are there only some specific things that you're like, oh, it's only worth it for these particular things?
00:16:01.617 --> 00:16:10.497
ADAM: I think there's a couple rides like the one that comes off the top of my head is like Space Mountain, just to see how different it is than the Disney World version.
00:16:10.517 --> 00:16:17.397
ADAM: But things like that, where, you know, my wife and I might take an opportunity to ride individually Rider Swap.
00:16:18.177 --> 00:16:25.677
ADAM: But a lot of the rides, our daughter, she's tall enough that she could ride with my wife and then she could also get on the Rider Swap and ride with me.
00:16:27.097 --> 00:16:29.937
ADAM: And then the other one takes our son while we're doing that.
00:16:29.957 --> 00:16:38.777
ADAM: So I think that's the part we're looking most forward to is that spending that one on one time with her when she's this will probably be her last trip that she's the only one not tall enough.
00:16:38.897 --> 00:16:44.577
ADAM: So and then she'll get she'll get double dipping on on some of the rides if they do it the same way that Disney World does.
00:16:45.237 --> 00:16:45.737
VIRGINIA: Yeah.
00:16:46.077 --> 00:16:48.937
ADAM: But yeah, that that that can take a little bit of time.
00:16:48.957 --> 00:16:53.857
ADAM: I mean, Soarin, that's still a half hour wait even on the Rider Swap second one.
00:16:53.877 --> 00:16:55.277
ADAM: So yeah.
00:16:55.817 --> 00:16:57.957
ADAM: So we the good news is we've had some practice on that.
00:16:57.957 --> 00:16:59.357
ADAM: We kind of know what to expect.
00:16:59.817 --> 00:17:00.317
VIRGINIA: All right.
00:17:02.117 --> 00:17:13.957
VIRGINIA: So next question in terms of specifically your daughter's interest because she has memories of trips before, even if your two year old has been like, how much do they remember?
00:17:14.057 --> 00:17:15.237
VIRGINIA: We don't know.
00:17:15.937 --> 00:17:17.417
VIRGINIA: But is she into the characters?
00:17:17.437 --> 00:17:18.977
VIRGINIA: Does she like to do character meet and greets?
00:17:19.597 --> 00:17:25.957
ADAM: Yeah, we got her an autograph book for Disney World, so we got to dig that out to take back out there.
00:17:26.677 --> 00:17:31.977
ADAM: The interesting thing from what I've been reading is that they wander around a little bit more than Disney World.
00:17:32.197 --> 00:17:32.657
ADAM: Oh, they do.
00:17:32.677 --> 00:17:32.757
ADAM: Yeah.
00:17:32.777 --> 00:17:40.117
ADAM: So that will be pretty exciting for them to actually see them in the natural habitat instead of just waiting in line to see them.
00:17:40.217 --> 00:17:42.437
ADAM: So yeah, she's pumped to see.
00:17:43.377 --> 00:17:48.457
ADAM: We do a countdown for a paper chain that she takes off a link every day.
00:17:48.477 --> 00:17:53.437
ADAM: So she's been counting down to when she can see Anna and Elsa and Mickey and Tinkerbell.
00:17:53.617 --> 00:17:59.357
ADAM: So yeah, she she's excited about that, then our son's excited to see Lightning McQueen.
00:17:59.377 --> 00:18:03.937
ADAM: A little bit different, but that's what he watches every day.
00:18:03.937 --> 00:18:07.537
ADAM: So that's repetitive, but it seems like it's getting that way in the house, too.
00:18:08.017 --> 00:18:08.737
VIRGINIA: Oh, my gosh.
00:18:08.857 --> 00:18:17.917
VIRGINIA: When my son was younger, like I could practically just say every line along with that movie because we just constantly had it on repeat.
00:18:18.397 --> 00:18:19.517
ADAM: At least there's three of them now.
00:18:20.917 --> 00:18:22.737
VIRGINIA: Yeah, yeah, I don't know.
00:18:22.757 --> 00:18:24.237
VIRGINIA: The original is the best, I think.
00:18:24.257 --> 00:18:24.857
ADAM: Oh, for sure.
00:18:25.397 --> 00:18:33.537
VIRGINIA: I have to ask, because you have a five-year-old, are you planning on doing any bibbidi-bobbidi-boutique experiences while you're there?
00:18:33.897 --> 00:18:43.717
ADAM: Not this time, but last time we went to Walt Disney World, we went to Ackershus, and we did the Disney Princess, but we also had some help that took her brother, so it was just my wife and daughter.
00:18:45.437 --> 00:18:56.557
ADAM: He gets a little bit antsy and jealous if he doesn't get to do everything, so we're going to pass on this time and then maybe next time, dive into that when she's a little older and he can maybe do something on his own, too.
00:18:57.077 --> 00:19:01.597
VIRGINIA: You know they do bibbidi-bobbidi-boutique, keep wanting to say bibbidi-bobbidi-boo.
00:19:02.397 --> 00:19:05.077
VIRGINIA: They'll do makeovers for boys, too.
00:19:05.097 --> 00:19:06.017
VIRGINIA: They can become a prince.
00:19:08.097 --> 00:19:16.817
VIRGINIA: And I know that in Disney World over by Pirates of the Caribbean, they used to have like a pirate makeover thing as well.
00:19:17.037 --> 00:19:21.077
VIRGINIA: So, you know, it's possible they could both do it at the same time.
00:19:21.097 --> 00:19:22.317
ADAM: Yeah, that's true.
00:19:23.137 --> 00:19:31.897
VIRGINIA: Okay, and Tuesday, March the 26th, you'll be going into California Adventure and you've never been to California Adventure before.
00:19:32.337 --> 00:19:38.857
VIRGINIA: So, anything specifically in California Adventure that you're excited to try for the first time?
00:19:38.877 --> 00:19:42.997
ADAM: Well, for me, I'm looking forward to try to Web Slingers.
00:19:43.797 --> 00:19:44.977
ADAM: That looks like an awesome ride.
00:19:46.517 --> 00:19:52.097
ADAM: Obviously, for the kids, I mentioned it already, but Radiator Springs looks amazing.
00:19:52.217 --> 00:19:56.217
ADAM: I'm excited to see that too, just because the pictures look like the movie.
00:19:56.377 --> 00:19:59.557
ADAM: So being able to step into that would be great.
00:19:59.577 --> 00:20:00.777
ADAM: So those will probably be the two.
00:20:02.537 --> 00:20:08.217
ADAM: Then debating on if I should take our daughter on Guardians of the Galaxy.
00:20:08.237 --> 00:20:13.437
ADAM: I know she can't do Tower of Terror, but I think she could be able to handle that.
00:20:13.457 --> 00:20:18.677
ADAM: But that's one that I'm questioning, if we should take a five-year-old on that one or not.
00:20:19.177 --> 00:20:22.657
VIRGINIA: When you say she can't do Tower of Terror, is it because she's too afraid to?
00:20:22.857 --> 00:20:24.697
VIRGINIA: Because it's scary looking?
00:20:25.277 --> 00:20:26.357
ADAM: Yeah.
00:20:26.877 --> 00:20:30.777
ADAM: I know she'd be afraid on that one, but obviously Guardians of the Galaxy is a little bit more fun.
00:20:31.717 --> 00:20:32.217
VIRGINIA: Yeah.
00:20:32.457 --> 00:20:38.117
VIRGINIA: I mean, there's music involved and I think it's like a random rotation of songs just like we have on Cosmic Rewind.
00:20:38.957 --> 00:20:42.177
VIRGINIA: But it's still the dropping, so if she's not into the dropping.
00:20:42.857 --> 00:20:46.137
ADAM: Well, we took her on Cosmic Rewind when she was four and that was a mistake.
00:20:47.297 --> 00:20:47.757
VIRGINIA: Oh, okay.
00:20:49.157 --> 00:20:49.697
VIRGINIA: I don't know.
00:20:49.717 --> 00:20:54.657
VIRGINIA: Do you want to press your luck and make it so that she hates Guardians of the Galaxy for the rest of her life?
00:20:55.517 --> 00:21:00.677
VIRGINIA: They're like, I don't know why I'm twitching, but I'm having some kind of visceral reaction to seeing this movie.
00:21:01.777 --> 00:21:03.197
ADAM: Whenever I hear that soundtrack.
00:21:05.797 --> 00:21:11.297
VIRGINIA: No, I took my son on Tower of Terror when he was five and it ruined it for him for years.
00:21:11.317 --> 00:21:12.457
VIRGINIA: He wouldn't ride it.
00:21:12.477 --> 00:21:13.857
VIRGINIA: He was just scared out of his mind.
00:21:14.337 --> 00:21:16.637
VIRGINIA: But now it's his favorite ride.
00:21:16.677 --> 00:21:17.837
VIRGINIA: Well, one of his favorite rides.
00:21:17.957 --> 00:21:26.197
ADAM: So it's a fine line that you got to figure out, but we'll probably not take her out at this time and wait until she's a little bit older.
00:21:26.837 --> 00:21:27.117
VIRGINIA: Yeah.
00:21:27.137 --> 00:21:36.497
VIRGINIA: I mean, the good thing about the Guardians version of it is that it doesn't come out of its track, right?
00:21:36.557 --> 00:21:39.337
VIRGINIA: It's just you're in the elevator and go up and down.
00:21:39.757 --> 00:21:40.917
VIRGINIA: So maybe she'll be able to do it.
00:21:40.937 --> 00:21:41.877
VIRGINIA: So I don't know.
00:21:42.497 --> 00:21:46.657
VIRGINIA: You know your daughter best and you'll make the decision that's best for her.
00:21:46.657 --> 00:21:53.017
VIRGINIA: But yeah, if you've already scared her on one Guardians ride, something to consider.
00:21:53.077 --> 00:21:57.837
ADAM: That's one I should have done a pre-ride video, but I hate to spoil it.
00:21:57.857 --> 00:21:58.737
ADAM: So we didn't do it.
00:21:58.757 --> 00:22:02.737
ADAM: And then it'll be a story when she's older, for sure.
00:22:03.337 --> 00:22:03.637
VIRGINIA: Yeah.
00:22:05.817 --> 00:22:06.457
VIRGINIA: All right.
00:22:06.857 --> 00:22:07.937
VIRGINIA: All right.
00:22:07.937 --> 00:22:13.257
VIRGINIA: Well, anything else that you all are particularly looking forward to?
00:22:13.917 --> 00:22:18.257
VIRGINIA: What kind of things is your wife into in terms of rides?
00:22:18.277 --> 00:22:19.477
VIRGINIA: Is she a thrill seeker?
00:22:20.777 --> 00:22:25.617
VIRGINIA: Is she willing to do any of these rides, like in credit coaster?
00:22:26.437 --> 00:22:26.877
ADAM: Yes.
00:22:26.897 --> 00:22:30.777
ADAM: That's probably one I'll have to do on my own, even without the rider swap.
00:22:30.797 --> 00:22:36.317
ADAM: But she's a thrill to some extent, but not as much as me.
00:22:36.637 --> 00:22:42.677
ADAM: And with the two kids, it'll probably just be more focused on them except for a few random here or there.
00:22:43.817 --> 00:22:52.877
ADAM: For me, she'll probably say, if you want to really do that, go ahead and report back to see if I'd like it or not, then we'll see if it's worth the rider swap.
00:22:52.917 --> 00:22:53.837
ADAM: She's pretty laid back.
00:22:53.857 --> 00:23:01.017
ADAM: She's great with the kids and sometimes they don't let her disappear out of her sight anyway.
00:23:03.797 --> 00:23:06.437
ADAM: But no, she's looking forward to it.
00:23:06.457 --> 00:23:14.877
ADAM: Like I said, she hasn't really seen much of Disneyland in a few years and I've done all the planning, so she's kind of following along as well.
00:23:15.097 --> 00:23:15.797
ADAM: We'll see how it goes.
00:23:18.997 --> 00:23:24.957
VIRGINIA: Do you have any dining reservation set up for any of the Disney restaurants?
00:23:25.417 --> 00:23:26.157
ADAM: We don't.
00:23:27.157 --> 00:23:32.197
ADAM: Like I said, we'll probably buy groceries and sandwich stuff for the kids and we'll probably do a lot of counter service stuff.
00:23:32.757 --> 00:23:39.777
ADAM: With it being two hours off, it's so hard to plan when they're going to be hungry and what else everything's going to be.
00:23:40.297 --> 00:24:01.597
ADAM: We found out with our dinners in Walt Disney World, they could take an hour and a half or two and with not really knowing what the parks are going to bring each day, that added well, what we need to have is more of touring the parks and it'll allow us to take a little bit more easy instead of run to each individual ride and hopefully we won't miss a lot of stuff that way.
00:24:02.877 --> 00:24:25.357
VIRGINIA: Well, I mean, it is nice that the parks are so close, it's very easy to park hop and get to things that you missed previously and with Genie Plus over there, the times that you can get for your Genie Plus rides are a lot closer to whatever the current time is than they typically are in Walt Disney World.
00:24:25.797 --> 00:24:30.257
VIRGINIA: So I think you'll find it to be very flexible and doable.
00:24:31.657 --> 00:24:36.097
VIRGINIA: I forgot to ask, but do the kids take naps in the middle of the day?
00:24:36.517 --> 00:24:37.717
VIRGINIA: Will you be stopping for that?
00:24:37.737 --> 00:24:38.377
VIRGINIA: I should say.
00:24:38.457 --> 00:24:44.097
ADAM: Our son does, but he can usually sleep anywhere, so we're hoping maybe in the stroller.
00:24:44.117 --> 00:24:48.477
ADAM: Our daughter never slept unless it was in a bed.
00:24:48.557 --> 00:24:54.137
ADAM: So the first time we went to Walt Disney World with her, we had to go back and take naps because she wouldn't sleep in her stroller.
00:24:54.157 --> 00:24:58.277
ADAM: So hoping that we can get it done with him without having to go back.
00:24:58.297 --> 00:25:02.477
ADAM: But we're fine with taking a two-hour break if we need to as well.
00:25:04.557 --> 00:25:09.117
ADAM: So not going to worry about it either way, but yeah, hopefully we can take a nap in that stroller.
00:25:09.417 --> 00:25:09.997
VIRGINIA: All right.
00:25:10.117 --> 00:25:16.277
VIRGINIA: And then on your departure day, Wednesday the 27th, what time is your flight?
00:25:17.497 --> 00:25:18.777
ADAM: So it's at 10.
00:25:19.597 --> 00:25:24.677
ADAM: We decided to get a hotel close to the airport that night.
00:25:24.717 --> 00:25:27.277
ADAM: So we were done with whatever.
00:25:27.877 --> 00:25:29.257
ADAM: We just made that decision last week.
00:25:29.277 --> 00:25:42.977
ADAM: So when we're done with whatever we're doing that day, if they make it to fireworks or whatever, we'll have the car packed up and go stay about two miles from the airport because you never know what's going to happen on the 405 on a workday morning.
00:25:42.997 --> 00:25:46.837
ADAM: So we didn't want to risk that after a good trip.
00:25:46.857 --> 00:25:51.277
ADAM: So yeah, that's what we had planned that night.
00:25:51.297 --> 00:25:55.537
ADAM: We'll see how long the kids last and get up there and head back to Omaha the next day.
00:25:57.317 --> 00:26:09.057
VIRGINIA: Well, since you are Dis or That, I will be especially curious to hear how you compare the rides that are both in Walt Disney World and Disneyland and which you prefer.
00:26:09.897 --> 00:26:16.117
ADAM: Yeah, that's one of the things I'm most looking forward to because I can put those questions on each week.
00:26:16.137 --> 00:26:20.637
ADAM: And I have no way to compare myself, so I don't get to vote on them.
00:26:20.657 --> 00:26:25.997
ADAM: So I'm looking forward to seeing which ones I prefer and see if it matches up with all the followers.
00:26:26.577 --> 00:26:28.677
VIRGINIA: Yeah, I'm not going to say my preferences now.
00:26:28.697 --> 00:26:29.757
VIRGINIA: I'm going to wait and hear what you think.
00:26:29.777 --> 00:26:32.617
VIRGINIA: I don't want to unduly influence you.
00:26:33.817 --> 00:26:36.637
VIRGINIA: But I'll let you know if you're right or not when you get mine.
00:26:41.277 --> 00:26:43.037
VIRGINIA: Yes, everyone has their opinions.
00:26:43.477 --> 00:26:44.177
VIRGINIA: Everyone does.
00:26:45.577 --> 00:26:48.157
VIRGINIA: Well, thank you so much for talking through your plans.
00:26:48.177 --> 00:26:52.437
VIRGINIA: And we will all look forward to listening to how it all goes.
00:26:56.477 --> 00:27:00.137
VIRGINIA: Listeners, that Post Trip Report is up and ready right now.
00:27:00.197 --> 00:27:04.657
VIRGINIA: So you can click on to the next episode and hear exactly how this trip turned out.
00:27:05.037 --> 00:27:06.037
VIRGINIA: Thank you so much, Adam.
00:27:06.057 --> 00:27:06.797
VIRGINIA: And I'll talk to you soon.
00:27:06.817 --> 00:27:07.837
ADAM: All right.
00:27:07.857 --> 00:27:08.217
ADAM: Thank you.
00:27:09.977 --> 00:27:11.917
VIRGINIA: Thank you, Adam, for joining me today.
00:27:12.337 --> 00:27:14.397

VIRGINIA: Thank you for listening and until next time, keep daydreaming about where you long to be.
